How to talk to recruiters privately
For the passive candidate: open to the right conversation, closed to a public search.
A passive candidate is employed, not looking, and open to the right thing. The trouble is that every ordinary way to be reached, a public profile, a message from a stranger, a resume on file at an agency, also announces you. Private is possible; it has rules.
Rules for a private conversation
- Let them speak first. A recruiter who wants your time should say who they are, which company, what role and what pay range before you say anything that identifies you.
- Share capability before identity. What you have done, for how long and at what seniority is enough for a recruiter to decide whether to keep talking. Your name adds nothing to that decision.
- Keep contact off company channels: a personal email, a personal phone, nothing on a work calendar.
- Decide what each stage is worth. A first conversation does not need your employer name; a final interview might. Release details in the order the process actually needs them.
- Keep a record of what you shared, with whom, and when.
How IncognitoH runs that conversation
- The recruiter, on a paid plan, sees your anonymous card first and then the professional detail. You have done nothing yet.
- An approach names the company, the role, the pay range, the work model and the place. You can ask questions through the platform, still anonymous, before you decide anything.
- Accepting says you are interested and releases nothing. Your name, email, phone, LinkedIn and employment history move one field at a time, only when you tick them, and each release is recorded and can be withdrawn.
- Declining or blocking costs nothing and reveals nothing. The recruiter learns only that this one did not want to talk.
- The recruiter is never anonymous. Their name and company are on every approach, and the asymmetry is the point.
What to expect
Fewer conversations, and better ones. A recruiter has a limited number of invites to send, so the ones that reach you were chosen rather than broadcast, and each one arrives with the company, the role and the pay already on it.
Open to the right conversation. Closed to everything else.
